Greenland NH Deliberative session January 2021

Greenland/Newington state representative Dennis Malloy joined with nearly 60 Greenland residents during the town deliberative session on Saturday January 30, 2021. Attendees voted to place the proposed town budget and several warrant articles on the ballot in March.

The only material change during this session was reducing the amount of money requested in petitioned Article 15 regarding the Weeks Library from over $500,000 to $198,000.

Rep. Malloy asked how the Selectboard determines what should be used from the fund balance. Town Adminstrator Matt Scruton said there are many factors including how expenditure of the fund balance affects the tax rate and that Greenland carries a sufficient balance as required by state law.

Rep. Malloy congratulated the Selectboard for submitting a warrant article for continued road improvements in town. He said this is not only a safety issue, but good roads also contribute to overall economic development efforts.

He also said that at this time, there is no anticipated change in the rooms and meals tax…which is shared with towns and cities across New Hampshire.
