Center Turn Lanes for Greenland

There is good, short term news for Greenland residents and anyone traveling on Highway 33/Portsmouth Avenue between the Winnicut River and Stratham. The NH General Court Public Works and Transportation Committee heard testimony on the NH capital improvement plan, that included about $3.5 million for building center turn lanes along this stretch of road beginning in August 2023. The plan needs to be approved by the committee, both bodies of the legislature and the governor.

This is federal highway money used for road repair and improvements to mitigate and remove dangerous traffic issues like the one we face in Greenland. There will be no money for bridge spanning the Winnicut River in this project, but State Senator Tom Sherman, State Representative Joan Hamblet and I are working with the Rockingham Regional Planning Commission and the state DOT to develop a “corridor study” to assess and improve traffic flow all along Portsmouth Avenue from Portsmouth to Stratham. It’s our top priority to include this corridor study in the 10 year road plan approved by the NH DOT. Timeline for that is yet to be announced.
