The Attorney General’s office released a probable cause statement for arrest warrant against former Rep. Troy Merner, alleging felony wrongful voting, theft by deception, unsworn falsification and tampering with public records.
NH House Democrats, Leader Matt Wilhelm said the charges raise significant ethical concerns that were not included in the AG’s September 18th letter to House Speaker Packard. Among other details, the arrest warrant reveals that prior to House members being sworn in for the 2023-2024 term, the AG’s Office obtained and shared information relative to Rep. Merner’s residency outside of the district to which he was elected to serve.
Given the closely divided partisan makeup of the House this term, it is of grave concern that Rep. Merner’s residency violations were overlooked both in Lancaster and in Concord while he continued to hold elected office. In the 2023 session alone, there were over 25 motions decided by just one vote in the House. Voters trust us to respect their voices and follow the laws we write, and this episode raises serious questions about the House’s commitment to uphold a democratic process.
Merner will face arraignment in late December.
