Clean Drinking Water is a Top Priority

I was a co-sponsor of HB 485 that protects the unborn and infants from unsafe levels of chemicals, especially PFCs, and 1,4-dioxane in our drinking water. The bill passed the legislature and was signed into law by Governor Sununu because he stated in a budget address that it’s important that safe drinking water protects our most vulnerable—our children.

This bill grew out of the worries shared by residents of Greenland, Rye, North Hampton, Merrimack, Litchfield, Manchester and Portsmouth of unsafe levels of PFCs found in these communities.

Historically, NH as agreed to abide by the levels set by the EPA for these chemicals. Surrounding states and other locales in the US have reduced by more than one-half the levels allowed by the EPA, so NH has taken action to help enforce stronger standards and help insure our drinking water is free from these known toxins.
